In 2018, Allen Ellison became the Democratic Nominee for Florida’s 17th U.S. Congressional District claiming a 52 percent victory over numerous contenders during the 2018 primaries. He then made an impressive showing on November 6th general election to his opponent, an experienced and well-known Senator who served three terms in the Florida Senate. Ellison’s campaign is all about bringing fresh ideas and positive solutions to our government. Ellison has always been concerned about the issues that matter to citizens around the country.

Dr. Cindy Banyai is a mother and small business owner who has lived and worked in Southwest Florida for over 10 years. Her goal is to bring the voices of Southwest Florida to Washington and to represent the voices of all constituents. Her platform revolves around clean water, a healthcare system that works for all families, and strengthening communities. Cindy has worked with hundreds of nonprofits and listened to the people in her community. After years of leaders failing to take action when it mattered most, she decided that enough was enough. Banyai is running for Congress because she “needed to step up and become one of those decision-makers and be the true fighter that our community deserves.”

Banyai said that she is “thrilled to be able to support Ellison’s campaign”. She went on to explain that “now more than ever it is important to support our fellow Democrats. We as a party stand no chance in November if we are focused solely on our own races. We need to stand in solidarity”.

Both Ellison and Banyai are part of the No Dem Left Behind Coalition that supports candidates in typically red districts.
