Dr. Cindy Banyai beat out her primary challenger, David Holden, in the race to be the Democratic Nominee for FL- 19 in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Fort Myers, FL July August 19 - Dr. Cindy Banyai has officially been declared the winner of the Florida Democratic primary in the 19th Congressional District. Banyai ran against David Holden, who was the Democratic nominee in 2018 but ultimately unsuccessful in flipping the seat from red to blue. While Holden out-raised and out-spent Banyai, she still came out of the primary with an impressive 12-point victory.

In an interview last night, Banyai reacted to the news: “It’s such an honor to be selected as the Democratic nominee in such a year as 2020. This shows that Southwest Floridians are craving real leadership by people ready to serve the people.”

Banyai is actively working with local leaders from the community to build a strong base of progressives for her community. She has joint endorsements from a variety of candidates and activists from around Southwest Florida area. She is running because she believes the working and middle class need a voice in Congress.

Florida 19 has traditionally been a very red district, but between the failures of the Trump administration and Republican leadership, 2020 is looking more and more like the year to finally put a Democrat in this seat. Banyai is excited to continue campaigning virtually to energize her district.
